Alamosaurus sanjuanensis

Description

Here's my personal favorite sauropod, Alamosaurus sanjuanensis. Contrary to popular belief, it was not named for the Alamo, but rather for the New Mexican Ojo Alamo Formation, where it was first discovered. Ojoceratops, a possible Triceratops synonym, was also found there, and Alamosaurus wasn't found in Texas until years later. In any case, this big sauropod is notable for a number of things. For one, it was the largest dinosaur known from North America, with the possible exception of some Jurassic diplodocids. Alamosaurus stretched to over a hundred feet long (over 30m) and weighed around ninety tons. It was also one of the last non-avian dinosaurs, living 66 million years ago. This would make it the last sauropod in North America. I've taken a small amount of artistic license here, giving my dinosaur osteoderms, a "butt-thagomizer" (as I and some friends call it) and a display structure on the neck, though none of these are improbable. I of course coloured my Alamosaurus grayish brown, after the Alamo, and gave it a blue display structure, because who doesn't like that shade of blue? Anyhow, this is also for the YouTube project PalaeoVerse.
